They are mainly talking in future-tense... so it's possible that they're looking into it. But seeing as we're all under license to use their software - they can do whatever the hell they like!

not future tense - they are talking about the windows genuine advantage tool currently in use on most xp systems. (the lastest version is installed by windows automatic updates as a "critical" update, so many people don't even know they have it.)

Well, it's an anti-MS rumor on slashdot. I'd say that pretty much guarantees it's not true.
Mike

All we need now is Paul Thurrott to make a statement then we know it's complete bull!

So
there !
You don't have a case. :) LOL
PS: Mike, it really is true, but if anyone is worried you can just uninstallthe MS WGA critical update, or just stop it phoning home, Zone Alarm Pro 6.5.700, etc will all do that, No Problem, that is until you want to install more MS software, and the lack of WGA will stop you.
PPS: To the WGA class action folks, MS has just given us all a freebie OS, Vista Beta2 for a year, so don't go attacking MS, that's not fair, especially when the EU is trying to kill off poor old MS.

Hey, the whole anti-trust thing is crap, Ford doesnt have to make their cars except parts from a chevy or honda. Apple has been super exclusive from the start, I dont want to pay 200 plus dollars for an OS which the government says the developer cant include any additional software. I cant afford to pay 30plus bucks for every little app I need on my OS. Government needs to stay out of it, and other companies need to buck up, and make something better and smarter. Linux is to complicated, Mac is too expensive and exclusive, and BEOS is to quirky. Stop the whining for the love of cheese!
Thank you MS for making this beta available for everyone and yes, spy on my computer to get the data you need to make it better!
